Greetings friends,
I’m thrilled to share an unreleased piano and vocal song today called Corsicana Lightning.
I tracked this in 2019 — it’s one of the last recordings before illness and high fever brought on Spasmodic Dysphonia, the vocal disorder which drastically changed my ability to sing. (If you listened to my Desert Lullabies EP, you’ll recognize the instrumental version of this song appearing on that record. Well, here’s the original with WORDS AND VOCALS!)
Artwork by Robbie Simon
This song is being released as part of SUPERBLOOM: A Benefit for Los Angeles Fire Relief, a record which also includes The War on Drugs, Jim James, Jenny Lewis, Mac DeMarco, Guided by Voices, Cass McCombs, M. Ward, and many many more. If you have the means, please buy the record to support all the folks in LA who need it most. 100% of proceeds will benefit local mutual aid organizations for LA Fire relief. Purchase here.

In other news, I am so excited to be holding an actual copy of my memoir, The Lost Voice, which will be released May 20th via Harper Collins! You can preorder it here.
In a strange way, this memoir feels more intimate than the 8 records I’ve made. In songs, I can veil the truth in poetic ambiguity, but here my heart is laid bare on the page in plain, clear, conversational language. I’ll be sharing some excerpts exclusively via my email list this coming week, so stay tuned for more news.
I'm living a quiet life here in the Catskills of Upstate New York. I spend my days writing, making stew, teaching workshops, making more stew, creek-swimming, making even more stew (tonight = green chile), and enjoying slow walks in the woods. Did I mention I’ve been making stew? I'm focused on my physical rehabilitation, working on both my voice and the other lingering Long Covid issues. For someone who was a touring musician for 16 years, I go to bed shockingly early. I call 9pm “Upstate Midnight.”
Oh, how I miss being on the road and connecting with all of you, especially meeting listeners face-to-face. I'd love to hear from you!
Share in the comments where you are, how you're doing, what you're listening to these days, what kind of stew you like to make or any other little detail you'd like to share. I'm eager to catch up and hear what's going on in your world.
Love to you all,
Greta
