Greetings beloved friends, listeners, animals, fairies, and elves,
I’m THRILLED to announce that my memoir, The Lost Voice, will be out May 20th, 2025 via and you can PREORDER IT HERE NOW.
“A poignant, tenacious memoir by musician Greta Morgan chronicling how she rediscovered her artistic voice after losing her ability to sing.
In 2019, Greta Morgan was on the rise. She had toured with Vampire Weekend, collaborated with Jenny Lewis, and garnered critical acclaim with her own musical projects. But in March 2020, after contracting Covid-19, she was diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological disorder with no known cure that left her unable to sing. Her once crystalline voice now reduced to a hush, she saw her career come to an abrupt standstill.
Beyond the physical ramifications, what does it mean to cultivate a true voice? Morgan’s loss launches her into a journey of grief and self-discovery, forcing her to broaden her artistic horizons and reconstruct her sense of self. Her narrative takes us on a whirlwind tour of music studios, band buses, and celebrity-filled backstage parties, but it also takes us to the red canyons of Utah and the spacious wilderness of the American Southwest. In these vast landscapes, Morgan finds unexpected community. In the silence, she learns how to listen to parts of herself she has neglected.
Questioning the purpose of creativity and what defines artistic passion, The Lost Voice is a raw and intimate portrait of grief, self-discovery, and the choice to keep living and creating.”
PREORDER HERE or at your favorite local indie. Writing this book and finding my voice on the page became a personal roadmap out of the dark. I hope that it can offer hope to anyone else who is experiencing a life-altering identity shift or anyone who wants to tune more deeply into their untapped creative potentials. Plus, there’s a lot of touring and songwriting hijinx. Come backstage and have some fun with me.
Along with the book, here is my first high drama author shot:
I’m writing you from my home in the Catskills of New York where I’m living slower than a sloth on its day off as I continue my Long Covid recovery. It’s unbelievable that I have not performed publicly since my last show with Vampire Weekend in the summer of 2022. As a lifelong touring musician, this is the longest I’ve ever gone without connecting with my beloved listeners in person. Thankfully, I’m on the Mayo Clinic’s Long Covid program and experiencing big breakthroughs lately and am even exercising with a trainer to recondition my body after 18 months of losing strength. As I continue living this quiet existence and regaining energy each day, we can connect on instagram and on Patreon.
In other news, my WRITING YOUR RECORD class, which will run for 12 weeks from January - March of 2025, is almost full. If you want to be with us, please snag a spot here. Alas, now that the book is complete and the year’s work is winding down, I’m settling in for some deep winter dreaming and HOPEFULLY the completion of some new songs. I’m working with the limitations of my new voice which wobbles and crackles and does all sorts of funny things, but which I have learned to love anyway.
Until I have new music to share, I’ll offer these songs by other artists. This is what I’m listening to on these crystalline winter mornings: CRYSTALLINE WINTER MAGIC.
Beaming love to all of you as we near the end of this wild year. Please do say hello in the comments!
Xoxoxo
