The hard copies of my memoir The Lost Voice arrived yesterday and they are even more beautiful than I expected!
Some close ups:
(a message spoken by Leonard Cohen in a hallucination.… you’ll understand when you reach Chapter 6)
I am so thrilled that it will be in your hands on May 20th!!!!!!!!
It’s not exaggeration to say that writing this book saved my life. Though I treasured that experience, even on the hardest days, I eventually reach a point during the final pass where the relentless typing of the word “I” had me teetering on the edge of sanity. My attention begged to break free of my own narrative and re-engage with the wider world.
“If I have to type *I* one more time, *I* might throw up,” I said to a writer friend. He said it it was perfect timing to feel that way.
“Once the book is out, it’s not your story anymore. It becomes everyone’s story,” he said.
What relief! It felt like the roof blasted off the house and I could see a big, bright sky. I find the idea comforting. People don’t read memoir to find out about the author; they read memoir to find out about themselves.
This book is for anyone who has ever experienced a life-altering loss, anyone who has ever shrunk themselves or silenced their voice to fit someone else’s expectations, anyone who has felt lost between versions of their identity, anyone who has longed to express their own creativity or speak their truth, anyone who has ever been touched by the power of a song.
I feel unbelievably grateful to have been given a chance to tell this story and can’t wait to hear how it resonates with your experiences.

Amazing!! In this case the sword was mightier than the pen...for now ⚔️😅
The book looks amazing! This makes me happy that I have preordered the physical book (which is rare for me) as well as the audiobook (which is my preferred format, especially now that I am back to a long daily commute). Love the use of a machete for a quick unboxing, too 😎
